Unused alien concept from “2001 A Space Odyssey”
Her’s my take on an unused concept for the Aliens in “2001”, as found in the excellent book by Piers Bizony.

Great work. Interesting to see what unused/alternate designs look like. As far as i know, the Discovery in the novel has some Heat Dissipaters. You modeled them kind of trapezoid-shaped. Other versions show diamond-shaped dissipaters. I can understand why Clarke and Kubrick went for the non-visible alien approach. Since the theme of the novel and film is the evolution of life as an selfreinforcing process as an end goal in itself to understand its existence aka the universe as an evolutionary process with the process being the meaning and goal. 🙂

Thanks!
Yes, I heard they didn’t want the radiators to look like wings.
I think they picked the best design in the emd though!
