Twelve New Works
I’ve not made a proper post here in a long time, and decided to fix that with a selection of my relatively recent work.
However, if you want something more frequently updated, I post most days on Blue Sky and Mastodon. (Gave up on Twitter a long time ago). Also I publish fairly regularly on my Soviet Space Substack, covering Soviet Space History as well as my visualisations, and restored archive material.
So, here we go. As usual, click on an image for a larger version. All rights reserved, feel free to contact me if you want to use an image, or if you want to commission me for work.
The Red Star
This design was based on a small illustration from the Soviet era. There was plenty of room for ad lib-ing the details, and I incorporated ideas from a Tsiolkovsky station, Daedalus Nuclear Pulse , and other elements. I’m really pleased with how this came out.
FREA pulse class ship at Proxima Centauri.
As you may have noticed if you see me on other Social media, I’ve been doing a LOT of work for the Enzmann Archive AKA FREA, and this is one of my favourites.
Doctor Enzmann was involved in the Orion Nuclear Pulse program, and they have seriously heavy duty starship designs. They were kind enough to build a gallery of work I did for them, which you can find here:
Enzmann Shipyard.
An absolute monster! Huge polygon counts, loads of fine detail, and complex lighting. This is Professor Enzmann’s design for a shipyard for starships, to be built at L1.
Saturn from a Major Moon.
Inspired, (fairly obviously!), by the work of Chesley Bonestell. This year I got to grips with Version 2 of the Gaea terrain software, and I’m VERY impressed. The combination of the “craterfield” primitive with other elements, particularly the new erosion features, is brilliant, and lets me take on planetary surfaces that would have been impossible before.
Soyuz 19k 21k Tanker Mission
Early crewed Soviet Moon landing concept. This was a Korolev mission design, intending to use the first N1 configuration, (without the extra engines), as a tanker to fuel a direct ascent and return Lunar mission, in which the whole shebang went down to the surface of the Moon to avoid docking issues in lunar orbit.
My prime site for publishing this research is my Soviet Space Substack. Free, now and always.
Desert Dawn.
I don’t think I shared this here before? A CD Cover I made for Javi Canovas, who makes brilliantly intricate sequencer based electronic music. Unusually for me, I made this in Eon’s “Vue” software.
Did you know Vue is now completely free? You can download it here.
Soviet Lunar Base, Factory Module.
Part of the Soviet Union’s plans for a long stay expeditionary lunar base. This is the factory module, that would extract oxygen from moon rocks. It would need the super-heavy “Vulkan” rocket to reach the Moon.
Again there a LOT more information on these plans on my Soviet Space Substack site.
Non-realistic Mars and Phobos
An attempt to get away from my usual photorealistic style, with a more painterly Mars and Phobos image. Thanks to Jackie Burns for the background.
Blue Giant, Ring’s Edge.
Exoplanet, Blue Giant with a couple of small rocky moons at the edge of the extensive ring system.
Voice of Space
I was lucky enough to work for about 9 months in Brussels, a beautiful city, where they are big on the surrealist artist Magritte. I thought it would be interesting to make a realistic style version of his “Voice of Space”, and this is the result.
Tin tin rocket.
I finally got around to building a gantry for my Tin tin rocket model! Now I need to set it in a proper landscape.
That will do for now, I will see how this goes before deciding if there’s any value in publishing more often.
Thank you for making it this far!
